- 1. Implementing Load-Moving Procedures: Following the competent person’s lifting plan and risk assessment.
- 2. Banksman Responsibilities: Understanding Health and Safety statutory requirements; Establishing the weight of loads.
- 3. Environmental Considerations: Applying company procedures for environmental conditions and allowable limits; Checking load ratings and the size of the laydown area.
- 4. Team Communication: Conducting team briefings (TBT) with relevant personnel; Confirming the load's weight before lifting.
- 5. Approved Procedures and Practices: Applying approved procedures relevant to the operations, work activities, and the workplace.
- 6. Load Handling and Storage: Approaching the load's final destination when signaled by the Banksman; Storing slings and lifting accessories properly.
- 7. Emergency Signals: Recognizing the emergency stop signal, which can be given by anyone to the crane operator; Applying route planning methods and techniques.
- 8. Effective Communication: Establishing and maintaining effective communication with the crane operator, slingers, and, if applicable, the supply vessel.
- The target group for Stage 3 consists of personnel seeking certification as competent Banksmen. Candidates should have previously completed Banksman training and/or possess sufficient and relevant work experience to qualify for the Stage 3 assessment.
