Management Of Major Emergencies (MOME)

This course is designed to provide knowledge and experience in the management of major emergencies. For delegates who have actual or potential prospects of command, the course provides the first stage in the procedure leading to formal competency assessment.. The ERT is responsible for devising, executing, updating, and monitoring an effective plan of action, as well as responding to the various stages of emergency response. To ensure that the stages are appropriately implemented, the ERT conducts an annual evaluation, property, or the environment.

Course overview

The Management of major Emergencies (MOME) training program is aimed at ensuring that personnel responsible for operational and management tasks in the hydrocarbon industry, whether onshore or offshore, maintain their competency standards. The training involves a simulated emergency situation with 4 to 6 participants, each assigned unique roles such as Installation Manager, Deputy Commander, Control Room Panel/ Radio Operator, Key Events Coordinator, and Muster & Logistics Coordinator.

Target Audience

This course is aimed at personnel who form part of the Emergency Response organisation onboard offshore facilities and who are required to manage emergencies such as OIM, production and maintenance superintendents, on scene commander & fire team leader, Installation Emergency Management Teams, Control Room Operators, Onshore Emergency Co-ordination Centres and Pipeline Operators.

  • 1. Review, manage, and assess the information available in an emergency situation in a timely manner.
  • 2. Establish priorities and take effective action.
  • 3. Implement predetermined emergency plans and procedures in the context of the current emergency.
  • 4. Efficiently communicate information and instructions.
  • 5. Keeping appropriate agencies informed through the support Emergency Response Team.
  • 6. Monitor and control resources; Time Out – Team Brief.
  • 7. Evaluate progress and communicate changes in plans and priorities.
  • 8. Effectively delegate authority and manage individuals and teams.
  • 9. Recognise and deal with stress in themselves and others.
  • 10. Abandonment.

  • Event 07 - Dropped object incident
  • Event 08 - Chemical spillage
  • Event 09 - Man overboard
  • Event 10 - Platform abandonment
  • Event 11 - Condensate / Oil Spill
  • Event 12 - Sea Surface Fire
Requirements
  • A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Experience in emergency response, health and safety, or any offshore/onshore operational role is preferred.
  • Prior completion of basic safety training (e.g., BOSIET, HSE, or offshore safety training) may be required.
  • Good physical condition to handle the physical demands of emergency response situations.
  • Strong communication and decision-making skills are essential, as the course involves coordinating in crisis situations.
  • Ability to work effectively in high-pressure, team-based environments.
  • A genuine interest in improving emergency management skills and responding to large-scale crises.
