Course overview

Embark on a rewarding career path with Elite's Barge Supervisor course, officially recognized and approved by LISCR (Liberia Government) under the IMO Res A-28-Res.1079. This program is designed for a career in Offshore as Barge Supervisor (BS) on Barges of various types, e.g. Pipelay, Accommodation, Jack up drilling units, Semi-subs, Cable laying, Diving support and other MODUs. The course equips individuals with the specialized skills and knowledge necessary to oversee barge operations effectively and responsibly. 

This course combines theoretical knowledge with practical, hands-on training to equip students with the skills needed to manage loading and unloading operations in compliance with International Maritime Organization (IMO) regulations. Upon successful completion, candidates receive a certification, validating their expertise and commitment to industry standards.

What will I learn?

  • I. STABILITY AND CONSTRUCTION.
  • a. The stability concepts specified for the ballast control operator plus a period of service in that capacity.
  • II. CONSTRUCTION.
  • a. Principles of construction, structural members, watertight integrity and damage control.
  • III. EMERGENCY DUTIES
  • a. Responsibilities set forth in the emergency plan or operating manual relating to the safety of the MOU .
  • IV. COMMUNICATIONS
  • a. Communication procedures for normal operations and for an emergency.
  • V. SAFE WORKING PRACTICES
  • a. Occupational safety,
  • b. Health and hygiene,
  • c. Hazardous areas,
  • d. Permits to work,
  • e. Work over water,
  • f. Work in enclosed spaces (see resolution A.1050(27),
  • g. Personnel training,
  • h. Understanding and inspection of safety equipment.
  • VI. REGULATORY REQUIREMENTS
  • a. International and national regulations and recommendations affecting operations.
  • VII. EMERGENCY FIRST AID
  • a. Provision of first aid to a casualty pending transfer to a medical facility.
  • VIII. TRANSIT OPERATIONS
  • a. The 1972 Collision Regulations, as amended,
  • b. Navigation and electronic navigational aids appropriate to the type of MOU,
  • c. Towing procedures, including recovery of tow.
  • IX. SEAMANSHIP
  • a. Heavy weather,
  • b. Store and bulk liquid transfer,
  • c. Manoeuvring and Positioning,
  • d. Anchor handling,
Requirements
  • Three years of service aboard MOUs including one year of service as driller, assistant driller, toolpusher, assistant tool pusher, mechanic, electrician, crane operator, subset specialist, ballast control operator or equivalent supervisory position on MOUs.
  • Hold a Bachelor of Science degree from a recognized school of technology and have one year of service as driller, assistant driller, toolpusher, assistant toolpusher, mechanic, electrician, crane operator, sub sea specialist, ballast control operator or equivalent supervisory position on MOUs.
  • Complete an industry- accredited MOU course that addresses those subjects defined in Section 6.3 of IMO Resolution A.891(21) and have six months service as a Ballast Control officer or Barge Supervisor Trainee
  • A certificate of completion of a DCO approved radar course if the MOU, which the seafarer is employed aboard, is radar equipped and the minimum safe manning certificate mandates that these deck officers hold radar observer certification
