The Helideck Emergency Response Team Leader's (HERTL's) training and competency evaluation programs introduce a combined approach of onshore and offshore workplace training and evaluation. In that case, onshore training in emergency response procedures, communication, leadership, and decision-making gives participants theoretical and practical skills.
This will enable them to undertake their future offshore workplace training and assessment as they implement what they learn in live situations to ensure readiness in offshore emergency responses’ coordination. A large-scale preparation program that encompasses both onshore as well as offshore segments guarantees that the HERTLs can manage emergency situations at helidecks; thereby improving safety rules and ensuring protection of people’s lives as well as property.
What will I learn?
- 1. Understand the importance of pre-planning for and the main elements of the response requirement for a range of helideck and helicopter emergencies.
- 2. Importance of emergency response practice via onshore training and offshore drills.
- 3. Requirement for different types of emergency response systems and controls.
- 4. Understand how the limited emergency response capability on an NUI can affect NUI helideck emergency response.
- 5. The roles and responsibilities of both the HERTL and the Helideck Emergency Response Team during a helicopter-related emergency.
- 6. Understanding the human factors issues during emergencies and how to manage them.
- A valid OPITO Helideck Operations Initial Training certificate or a valid Offshore Helideck Assistant (HDA) Initial Training Certificate or a valid Offshore Helicopter Landing Officer (HLO) Training Certificate
- A valid OPITO Helideck Emergency Response Team Member Certificate or a valid Helideck Emergency Response Team Member Further Certificate
- A valid Radio Operators Certificate of Competence (ROCC) – UKCS Operations or
- A valid Helideck Emergency Response Team Member Further Certificate and a valid Radio Operators Certificate of Competence (ROCC) – UKCS Operations only.
- Delegates must also have completed a Dangerous Goods by Air training course in accordance with Part 1, Chapter 1.4 of the ICAO Technical Instructions, subsection 1.5 of the IATA Dangerous Goods Regulations (Category 7, 8, or 9), or a state aviation-approved dangerous goods awareness training course.
